Local Indie-Pop foursome to play three shows this week

Montpelier have been making a scene here in Brisbane during the past few months having recently returned from LA where they recorded their debut EP with Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids, Yves Klein Blue). The indie-pop rockers have been back playing their local spots before looking to head off once again in October to CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. Their first port of call however is Big Sound 2009 in Brisbane, where they are playing a number of shows.

“We’re super keen for Big Sound, it’s the best chance we have here in Australia to show off our wares to a worldwide audience” says lead singer and bassist Greg Chiapello. “We’re a relatively new band so we’re not actually on the official lineup but we thought it too good an opportunity to miss, so we booked our own shows!”

“Our sound is somewhere around Death Cab For Cutie and Arcade Fire with some of Brisbane mixed in” explains keys player, Andrew Stone, “so if you like that kinda sound, and honest songwriting you’ll surely enjoy our set.”

The lads have been working hard putting together an energetic yet beautiful live set, and writing new material in the lead up to the release of their EP. The first single is set for release in October, with the full product out in January next year.

You can see Montpelier at Bar Soma on Thursday 10th Sep at 10:00pm ($8), Club Blink/299 Friday 11th Sep at 8:30 ($10), and a cool down set at Ric’s Bar on Saturday 12th Sep at 4:45pm (free).
