Welcome to the first installment of our massive Overcranked feature! Tonight we sat down with Luke Mcdonald, lead guitarist from Sunk Loto for a chinwag about the new album and what it’s like playing the festival circuit.

BrisbaneMusic : Now, you guys are playing at the Overcranked festival later this month, can you tell us some details on your set times etc. Where can readers come and see you?
Luke Mcdonald : We’re really excited about playing Overcranked at Four o’clock this Saturday on the main stage, we’ll be playing lots of new material and we’re stoked with it and cant wait to see the fans reactions.

BM : You’ve supported, Korn, Static-X, Fear Factory, Mudvayne, Sevendust, The Deftones, and Linkin Park - were any of those gigs in particular a stand out?
LM : We had an awesome time on all those tours, it’s always a joy to support bands you dig and respect.  If i had to choose one though it would probably be the Sevendust run, we really hit it off with those guys and when the tour was over they invited us to the States for another run of shows.

BM : How far off is the new album?
LM : At this stage we’re planning to be in the studio by May, we’re currently in the pre production stage, it’s cool to hear the songs we’ve been working on for so long finally come together and nearly finished.  We have put a demo song called Kill Your Soul up on our myspace page - www.myspace.com/sunkloto

BM : This time around in the studio, and during the writing process, was there a conscious effort, or any pressure to do things differently? Can we expect as much of a change in sound on this album as there was on the last one?
LM : Definitely!  It’s another big step for us and we’re gonna shock alot of people again, the way we see it is if we’re really into it the fans have gotta trust us because we’re really tough on our selves and they will love it to.  It’s never a conscious thing, we just write what ever comes out.  This album will be different sounding to our last because we’ve grown as musicians and as people to.

BM : I’ve noticed that your myspace page seems to be the center of your online presence. How important do you feel myspace is to independent bands these days?
LM : It’s a great tool for up and coming bands to get their music out there, you can record a demo on a cassette player in your garage and upload it within five minutes and people from all over the world can listen to it for free!  I think that’s really cool and very important for struggling bands.  It’s also a great way to communicate with the fans and keep them up with what the band’s doing.

BM : What is THE ultimate goal for your band, is there something you have your targets set on?
LM : World domination!

BM : Thanks for your time.
LM : Thanks!
