On Friday 2nd May, Globe Theatre presents an interactive screening of the 1986 movie musical Little Shop Of Horrors (M) at 220 Brunswick St Fortitude Valley.

Whilst the film screens, a cast of 10 floorshow performers will re-enact the film’s crazy characters live on stage as a lip-synch performance and incorporate interactive elements into the film-going experience.

Based on the hit Off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors stars Rick Moranis as a florist that discovers a new breed of plant that relies on human blood for survival. With a special guest appearance by Steve Martin.

“We are encouraging people to sing-along, join in, and have fun with the film,” said Globe Theatre’s Kristian Fletcher.

The comedy/horror film will kick-start at 7.00pm.

“The attraction to ‘Little Shop’ never dies”.

Diesel at the Globe!

October 24th, 2007

On Saturday 17 November, Globe Theatre presents Diesel, in a solo show with his band at 220 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley

American born guitarist/singer Mark Lizotte was snatched from his Perth-based band The Innocent Bystanders and launched into the Australian charts as the leader of Johnny Diesel & The Injectors in the late ’80s.

A career was born and Mark became known as Diesel.

Diesel made a name for himself with his versatility on the guitar and his rich, soulful voice. His band’s debut album entered the charts at #2 and was the biggest-selling album of 1989.

Diesel’s first album under his own name (1992), was a mega-platinum smash and earned him ARIA Awards in the ‘Best Album’ and ‘Best Male’ talent categories. He is the only artist to win ‘Best Male’ Awards on three separate occasions.

In 2001, having started a family and relocated to New York, Diesel returned to Australia, assembled a band, and began gigging as a solo artist.

Diesel released his latest album Coathanger Antennae in June 2007.

“I want to make records where I can play with other people and just have fun,” says Diesel.

“This album is the most liberating record to date”.

The album ranges from heartfelt ballads to soulful rockers and some straight-out rock & roll.

Halloween Horror Film Double!

October 24th, 2007

This Halloween (Wednesday 31 October), Globe Theatre, 220 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley, will present an 1980s Horror Film Double with a screening of the cult classics The Shining and Friday The 13th.

Director Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) (MA15+) is regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made.

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, it tells the story of a family that become caretakers of an isolated hotel during the winter and the father slowly goes insane.

Starring a young Kevin Bacon, the original Friday The 13th (1980) (R18+) set the trend for the ’slasher film’ genre which continued into the ’80s.

When the staff at a summer camp are murdered one-by-one, councellor Alice must fight for her life to avenge the killer.

Globe Theatre’s film programmer Kristian Fletcher is pleased to welcome these classic horror films back to the big screen.
